Panama City was founded on 15 August
1519 by Pedro Arias Dávila. Two years la-
ter, pursuant to a Royal Charter dated 15
September 1521, it was granted the title of
“city”.
Situated on the shores of the Gulf of Pana-
ma in the Pacific Ocean, east of the mouth
of the Panama Canal, with a population of
more than 1.4 million, it is the capita and
the largest city in the Republic of Panama,
