The new Luis “Chicho” Fábrega Regional Hospital is being built
in the Veraguas province. The new 46,460 m
2
facility will house
the central services in the basement and ground floor plus three
floors for in-patients and emergency services. It will also have 313
beds and parking spaces.
The three main corridors of the hospital will serve as the back-
bone of the building which will befit not only the population of
Veraguas but also people from neighbouring regions.
This project is 120 kilometres west of Panama City and 20 ki-
lometres from the Caribbean coast in a forest region with high
levels of rainfall and is part of the Cobre Panama project, currently
in the construction phase to develop a world-class copper mine
in the province of Colón.
The work consists of the execution of a 6.6 kilometre access
road connecting the mine with the facilities on the coast. It also
contemplates safety measures for the residents along the road
such as sidewalks and safety measures to protect pedestrians,
complying with Panamanian and international regulations and
enabling the implementation of the best safety practices.
