Broom Contest 2014 awards
given out
Bilbao, Valladolid, Valencia,
Vigo, Laredo (Cantabria),
Oviedo and the Asturian
towns of Ribadesella,
Llanera and Grado are the
cleanest cities in Spain.
The first edition
of this contest was held
in 1987, organized by the
European Union coinciding
with the European
Environment Year.
ATEGRUS was in charge of
organizing the event
Waste collection in Bilbao.
Parks and garden maintanence and upkeep in Valencia.
Bilbao, Valladolid, Valencia, Vigo, Laredo
(Cantabria), Oviedo and the towns of Ri-
badesella, Llanera and Grado in Asturias,
where FCC provides waste collection ser-
vices, were the winners of the “Platinum
Brooms” award, the top prize given out
each year by the Asociación Técnica para
la Gestión de Residuos y Medio Ambiente
(Technical Association for Waste Manage-
ment and the environment, ATEGRUS).
The contest was organized as part of an
ATEGRUS initiative to support, reward,
and disseminate waste collection and
urban cleaning expertise as well as the
preparation of projects and technological
developments for the sustainable mana-
gement of our environment, in collabora-
tion with the International Urban Planning
and Environment week. The award cere-
mony was held in the South Auditorium of
Madrid’s Fair Grounds.
This was the 14
th
edition of the Silver, Gol,
Special Mentions, and Platinum 2014
Awards which are given within the context
of the International Urban Development and
Environment Week celebrated in Madrid.
More than 62 municipalities and companies
participated in the contest organized by
ATEGRUS to reward good waste manage-
ment and urban cleaning.
