Celebrating
World Water Day
March 22, as an international day for ce-
lebrating fresh water was an initiative pro-
posed by the United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP) Conference which met
in 1992. The United Nations General As-
sembly responded and designated March
22, 1993 as the first World Water Day.
Each year, a specific aspect of fresh water
is highlighted in World Water Day. This year,

At the round table “Energy in the urban
end-to-end water cycle”, Pedro Ruiz stres-
sed that electricity consumption currently

Seminar on World Water Day
Speaker: Santiago Lafuente, direc-
tor of Zone I
Santiago Lafuente focused his presentation
on the main challenges that FCC Aqualia
will be facing in the future: Corporate So-
cial Responsibility (CSR), dialogue with the
community, and R+D+i. He spoke on the
need of having a public-private collabora-
tion model such as ones currently being
carried out by the public administrations in
the water sector and stressed that this was
the model for success. He also highlighted
the international and nationwide prestige of
Spanish public and private water manage-
ment companies

is carrying out in various municipalities to
ensure water quality and to offer a perso-
nalised service.

Speaker: Manuel Rosado, Aqualia’s
representative in Alicante
In his presentation, entitled “Managing the
quality of water supply in La Nucía (Alican-
te), Manuel Rosado explained the procedu-
res for ensuring the quality of water for hu-
man consumption, existing regulations, the
treatment processes, the types of analyses
performed, and the protocol for self-control
and how citizens can obtain information on
the quality of water of their municipalities.
