Celebrating
success
FCC Environment is celebrating a bumper
crop of award shortlistings: FCC’s Health
and Safety Awards, the CIWM environ-
mental Excellence Awards, the National
Recycling Awards, and the B2B Marketing
awards.
There of its entries were chosen as finalist in
FCC’s Health and Safety Awards which are
at their second year.
Wrexham Recycling Park has been short-
listed in the safety management category
for the site’s health and safety performan-
ce, audit scores, and for having achieved a
zero accident rate. An isolation device de-
veloped by Andrew Sargent and Roy Tunks
has been selected from the technical inno-
vation entries.
The lock-off boxes isolate plant machinery
when mechanical works are in progress
in order to prevent accidents. Sadly, Roy
Tunks passed away at the end of last year
so that he will receive the accolade posthu-
mously.
Finally, Paul Stokes, Head of Prevention,
Safety, Environment, and Quality, is one
of the contenders for the personal achie-
vement award for the “Don’t Gamble with
your Health and Safety” campaign.
Paul has created and the three-year pro-
gram to improve health and safety in the
business by ensuring that the wellbeing of
the staff is at one of the pillars of our corpo-
rate culture, and he has worked tirelessly to
promote this program.
To top off this list of successes in the culture
of health and safety, FCC Environment was
also shortlisted for the Dector Prizes for En-
vironmental Excellence of the Environment
Services Association (ESA).
The work with Sue Ryder at the re3 hou-
sehold waste recycling centres in Berkshire
was picked out as one of the finalists in the
National Recycling Awards in the Best Part-
nership Project for Recycling category.
Healthcare charity Sue Ryder is a non-pro-
fit entity which in 2012 generated 28,561
pounds from the sale of reusable items sal-
vaged from two household waste recycling
centres in Reading and Bracknell. In addi-
tion to funding high-quality end of life care,
44,060 kg of items were diverted away
from the landfill.
Also, the work carried out by the internal
communication department was shortlisted
in the B2B Marketing Awards which recog-
nises excellence in trade marketing. The
recognition for the rebranded internal com-
munications, value workshops, the ABCD
awards and CEO Roadshows, as well as
the staffzone, the Getting to the Point and
Chevron bulletins, will allow it to compete
with the best.
