Miguel Ángel Peñas,
between cleaning
tasks and women’s
handball
Throughout history, there has always been
someone who wins and, consequently, so-
meone who must lose. Generally, the great
and the strong are usually the ones who win
while those who lose are the small and the
weak.
And, as in any major feat, there is always
someone who carries on their shoulders the
weight of glory and, in some cases, immor-
tality.
Miguel Ángel Peñas, is an FCC employee
who enables us to enjoy those ephemeral
and insatiable moments when the women’s
handball team achieves victory. The merit,
however, belongs to the team members
who, from the first to the last, are all ama-
teurs.
Miguel Ángel has witnessed thee winning
nobleness of small teams. It does not matter
to him how complicated it may be since he
is always willing to achieve the glory reserved
for the great, through “work, humility, enthu-
siasm, and by having everything under con-
trol”. It is not a dream; he has actually made
it possible for a team made up of amateurs,
the Aula Cultural, to reach the Honour Di-
vision. This is not the first time, however,
that he achieves this. A few years back he
enabled another team, the Carobels Cleba
León to ascend to another division. To be
able to sit atop the Olympus you first have to
win the major leagues, and this is only pos-
sible in the Olympic Games. Besides, he is
also the trainer of the local women’s national
He works at the cleaning contract for
the Renault factory in Valladolid, part of
the Castile-León branch office of the
Environment Division.
