FCC Medio Ambiente participates in the

Occupational Road Safety

training organized by the Regional Institute of

Safety and Health at Work

Carolina Esteban Vitutia, an FCC Medio

Ambiente prevention technician, was

responsible for conducting the course

entitled “Road Safety in Urban Sanitation”

as part of a training program organised by

the regional Institute of Safety and Health

at Work (IRSST, Spanish acronym) on

“How to improve preventive measures in

Occupational Road Safety.

This training activity, held at Instituto de

Madrid, is art of the Training Catalogue

for 2016 and aims to inform on basic

road safety concepts, risks, and efficient

measures in the work environment.

To complete the training Program, IRSST

requested the participation of FCC Medio

Ambiente so that it could discuss its track-

record and experience in matters relating

to road safety, recognised in other forums,

such as in EU, participating in the PRAISE

seminar organised by the European

Transport Safety Council

Carolina shared with the students the basic

ideas of the FCC Medio Ambient Strategic

Road Safety Plan which served to illustrate

the good management in this area and,

particularly in the urban sanitation sector

in terms of road safety, mobility, and the

prevention of road accidents.

Among the topics discussed, Carolina

stressed the importance of the having the

support of the Company’s management

which sets specific road safety objectives.

An analysis was made of the road risk

factors inherent in an activity conducted

on public thoroughfares and some of the

effective prevention measures implemented

in several branches in Spain were discussed

such as:

Implementing the use of the safety

helmet by workers who ride on the

stirrup in rear-loading waste collection

trucks.

Program for redesigning the routes for

rear-loading waste collection trucks to

eliminate potentially dangerous turns

in the Central, North, and Cataluña II

regional branch offices.

The “12 months, 12 slogans, 1

objective” Road Safety campaign

conducted by the Levante II and the

Aragon-La Rioja branches.

Recognition of the

work carried out by

FCC Medio Ambiente

IRSST recognises the work of FCC

Medio Ambiente in the fight against

traffic accidents. It highlights the

fact that more and more public and

private organizations are becoming

aware of the influence of traffic on

occupational safety and implement

preventive measures such as training

and awareness-building campaigns to

make traffic accident prevention part

of a company’s activity.
