The first potable water
station in the island of Tenerife
starts operations
“A day of satisfaction” was how the mayor of
the city, Marcos Brito, described the start-up
of the first potable water station in the island
of Tenerife at the official inauguration event.
“Of satisfaction, because it marks the end of
the crisis” which started at the beginning of
the year due to the restrictions on the use of
water in some parts of the city.
The project, the progress of which was fo-
llowed by neighbourhood associations and
the media during organized tours, improved
the quality of water by correcting, definitively,
the turbidity of the water at the entry of the
deposits.
The work involved the construction of an au-
tomated filtering system and the related anci-
llary services at the La Montaña deposit. It in-
cluded the installation and conditioning of the
five silica sand filters measuring 2.5 metres in
diameter, and a new pump to improve water

to this project, the city now has “its first pota-
ble water station with pressurised sand filte-
red installed in the island of Tenerife”, explai-
ned David Díez, head of Production at FCC
Aqualia in Tenerife.
The counsellor of the Water department at
City Hall, Jesús Morales mentioned that “an
important part of the problem had been resol-
ved and will be completely addressed thanks
to the deposit that is being executed at Vera”.
Besides the mayor, among those who were
present in the event was Fernando Bethen-

the head of infrastructures of the Island’s Wa-
