The Environment division was awarded a
contract put out to tender by the City Council
of Barcelona contemplating maintenance of
the city’s sewerage system until 2022. FCC has
been managing this contract since 1911 in what
can be described as the beginning of a fruit-
ful public-private collaboration model which
generated a methodology that creates value
for the residents, the City Council and
companies.
This contract gave rise to FCC’s diversification
process which has been
developing over a period of more than 100
years. The service will be provided under a
“smart philosophy” linked to resilience, defi-
ned as the human capacity for assuming
and surmounting extreme situations.
