in an easy way, the entire process that

products go through from their creation

from raw materials to being recycled into

The centre is designed to help educate

local residents and young people about the

benefits of recycling and creating energy

from waste.

Juergen Schaper from FCC Environment,

said: “The new features are really going to

benefit the local community by providing

them with information and knowledge to

know more about every aspect of waste and

recycling. I would urge schools and groups

to get in touch and come and pay us a visit.”

Councillor Reg Shore, Executive Member

Energy from waste

Lincolnshire County Council’s Waste

Services Department was awarded planning

permission for an Energy from Waste (EfW)

facility at North Hykeham in 2009.

The facility, along with the education centre,

was opened in 2013 and is owned by the

county council and run by FCC Environment.

It is the first plant built by FCC Environment

in the United Kingdom based on “Energy

from Waste” through the incineration of

non-recyclable wste from households,

businesses and indistries and from the the

combustion gases that are generated.

How is my waste recycled?

Visitors are shown the processes of

how a plastic bottle is recycled and

they can find out more information

through a touch screen computer.

Why should I recycle?

This feature

displays the benefits of recycling

such as creating and saving energy

and reducing carbon emissions.

What’s my impact?

Visitors

can interact with a touch screen

computer and are asked to think

about their actions when it comes to

waste, looking through both natural

and human influences.
