a road safety campaign

in Central America

sponsored by

FCC Construcción

FCC Construcción in Central America has a

launched an awareness-building campaign

on safety and health. “Primero la Vida” (Life

comes first) aims to create awareness by

disseminating, through different capsules

and messages, the most important aspects

of safety and health.

The first message of the campaign empha-

sises the use of the safety belts in perso-

nal and cargo vehicles and aims to build

Did you know that…

It is necessary to differentiate between

the “Dry Eye Syndrome” and eye dry-

ness, since the former is a pathology

that must be diagnosed and treated

by an eye doctor.

It involves a reduction or alteration of

tear production.

It is very common in women due to

hormonal changes and, therefore, al-

terations are common during adoles-

cence, pregnancy, breast-feeding, and

menopause.

“Primero la Vida”,

Do your eyes feel

dry?

awareness among drivers that buckling the

safety belt can safe lives.

As part of the campaign, posters were dis-

tributed in Panama, Costa Rica and Nicara-

gua and stickers referring to the campaign

were pasted on vehicles.

Besides this visual support, a course was

organised for the teams with the objecti-

ve of making them become involved in an

issue that could mark a difference in their

work day.

This initiative is part of the occupational

safety and health plan launched in the pro-

jects currently being executed in Central

America. FCC maintains strict safety and

health controls so as to reduce hazards and

to make workplaces safe.

Tear production could diminish due to

the use of computers or by spending

too much time looking up close during

working hours.

There are several types of eye drops to

mitigate the sense of dryness. Never-

theless, it is necessary to choose the

right one. The use of eye drops not

adapted to a patient’s actual needs

could even increase the symptoms.

Go to your eye doctor if...

Your eyes are red, itch, burn, you have

cloudy or tired vision, etc. The sense

of dry eyes may not be noticed since

this could be the cause of your symp-

toms.

You start to notice that you cannot to-

lerate your contact lenses as you did

before. These can be adapted to ones

that you can use longer and are more

comfortable by choosing the material

that are most suitable to your needs.

If you experience symptoms associa-

ted with the screen of your compu-

ter, tablets, etc., such as headache.

By improving tear production, these

symptoms could diminish.
