On 13 April 1999 the Ministry of Labour
and Social Affairs published an Order
for establishing 28 of April of each year
as the World Day for Safety and Health
at Work with the aim of spreading the
occupational hazard prevention culture
coinciding with the day chosen by the
global trade union movement to pay
homage to the victims of accidents at
the work place. Since 2003, the World
Health Organization set this as the day
for celebrating the annual campaigns.
