The
FCC celebrates its first
Safety and Health at Work Week
Coinciding with the celebration of World
Day for Safety and Health at Work and in
line with the initiative of the Regional Insti-
tute for Safety and Health at Work of the
Madrid Autonomous Community, FCC or-
ganized its first Safety and Health at Work
Week on 28, 29 and 30 April of this year.
During these days and, in collaboration with
various institutions, companies, and pro-
fessional associations specialised in safety
and health, several conferences, seminars
and other events were organized to provi-
de information on various safety-related is-
sues, the promotion of health and welfare,
wellbeing, and personal and family care.
This initiative aims to promote the preven-
tion of accidents at work and occupatio-
nal diseases and to encourage safe and
healthy habits among FCC personnel and
the dissemination of a preventive culture
among the community.
Ignacio Ara Royo, deputy general manager
of Sports and Health at the Sports Council
was in charge of the inaugural conference
which versed on the importance of physical
activity and on keeping active during our
senior years. The interesting conference
underscored the clear correlation between
practicing sports and improved productivity
at work.
On the first day of the conference, FCC
launched the “Step by Step for your health”
campaign, an initiative in keeping with the
Strategy for Promoting Health and Pre-
venting Diseases of the Ministry of Health,
Social Affairs, and Equality, the purpose
of which is to encourage the use of stairs,
rather than the elevators, at the workplace.
FCC was the first Spanish company to pro-
mote the Ministry’s campaign which is sup-
ported by the World Health Organization.
The company also unveiled its worldwide,
“FCC a Healthy Company” and other pro-
jects that will be implemented shortly, such
as the “Social Sports Network,” which will
be launched immediately and will kick-
off with the “Travelling throughout Spain
by foot” campaign in which FCC workers
will be walking 9,000 kilometres through
virtual routes that pass by several of the
company’s worksites.
The other topics discussed included the
creation of the “Healthy Community” and
other healthy initiatives for employees.
Other discussions were organized on ta-
king care of our backs, our eyesight, road
safety, sports, nutrition and health, some of
which also included practical sessions.
The activities were conducted at the Las
Tablas, Federico Salmón, Madrid Medical
Services, Acanto and Hormgueras centres
as well as in various medical departments
nationwide. More than 400 people parti-
cipated in the programmed activities and
