Awarded in 2013,

the 30-year contract is

worth nearly

1.095 million euros

(920.4 million pounds)

Paul Taylor, the Chief Executive of

FCC’s subsidiary in the United Kingdom

said during the inauguration ceremony

that the “Greatmoor EfW will convert

Buckinghamshire’s household and bu-

siness waste, that is, material that can-

not otherwise by recycled, into renewa-

ble energy. This will reduce the county’s

dependence on landfill disposal”. The

30-year contract represents significant

financial and sustainability benefits for

Buckinghamshire.

According to Taylor, “: “The construction of

Greatmoor EfW marks an important step

forward for FCC Environment as the bu-

siness continues to develop, focusing on

its customers’ requirements for extracting

value, in the form of energy, from the was-

te left over after recycling has taken place.

Greatmoor EfW represents an integrated

service that the county can be proud of.”

Addresses environmental challenges

Antonio Alfonso, managing director of

FCC Medio Ambiente Internacional, said,

“The Greatmoor EfW marks a step forward

for FCC as a global partner of cities and

administrations that want to address en-

vironmental challenges. The commissio-

ning of this plant showcases our ability to

provide energy-from-waste solutions with

public-private finance models (PPP)”.

In 2011, Buckinghamshire City Council

accepted FCC Environment’s bid for the

non-recyclable waste treatment contract.

In April 2013, after securing the neces-

sary urban and environmental permits, the

Buckingham City Council awarded the de-

finitive contract for a term of 30 years.
