Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela

tours FCC’s work site

Juan Carlos Varela, president of Panama,

accompanied by the Minister of Canal

Affairs and the manager of Panama’s me-

tro, Roberto Roy, toured the work site of

the Line 2 metro of Panama and the Ciu-

dad de la Salud project, both projects being

developed by FCC in this Central American

country.

During the work visit by Panama’s president

and his delegation, Manuel Antonio Oliva-

res, manager of FCC Construcción Centro-

américa, and Juan Antonio del Saz, mana-

ger of the Ciudad Salud Project, informed

the president of the progress achieved at

each of the projects.

In the first part of the tour of Line 2 of the Me-

tro, FCC managers explained to the ministe-

rial team of the 15% progress achieved to

date in the project and, in respect of Ciudad

de la Salud, conceived as the most modern

hospital in Central America, they reported

that 45% progress has been made.

Expected to be in operations by December

2018, Line 2 of Panama’s metro, worth an

investment of more than 1.8 million do-

llars, will stretch over 21 kilometres above

ground, will have 16 stations, and will trans-

port in its initial phase, 16,000 passengers

per hour in both directions. President Va-

rela, during his visit, requested that the

project should be completed by December

2018, five months earlier than the date ori-

ginally contemplated.

Work at Ciudad de la Salud, currently in the

redesign phase, as requested by its deve-

loper, Caja de Seguro Social, is progressing

in respect of the definition of its facilities and

fittings, as well as in the hiring of 200 wor-

kers. The workforce will be gradually increa-

se in order to comply with the terms for the

delivery of the project by the third quarter

of 2018.

Marietta Jaén, the deputy-minister of Pu-

blic Works, joined the tour of Ciudad de la

Salud, started at the facilities of the visitor’s

centre. The group then inspected the areas

that will be used as the amphitheatre of the

complex, known as the Hospital Street, the

emergency area, and the upper floors of the

facilities.
