FCC Aqualia

to manage the Valdebebas

(Madrid) wastewater treatment

FCC Aqualia will be in charge of the opera-

tions and maintenance of the Valdebebas

wastewater treatment plant, owned by the

Madrid City Council and managed since

2007 by Canal de Isabel II. The contract is

worth more than six million euros.

Situated on the right bank of the Jarama,

River, the plant treats wastewater generated

by the Fuencarral-El Pardo, Ciudad Lineal,

Hortaleza and Barajas districts. It also recei-

ves water from Paracuellos del Jarama in the

Alberche River basin.

The wastewater treatment plant’s capacity

provides services to a population of 259,200

people. It currently treats 10.7 million m

3

/

year of water and produces 2,710,167 kWh

of energy.

Other contracts

FCC Aqualia participates in the sewerage

contracts in the metropolitan area that have

been put out to tender by Canal de Isabel

II since 2009 (prior to 2007, it was mana-

ged directly by the City Council) and in the

peripheral areas (Madrid Autonomous Com-

munity) since 2010. Last year, the Company

was awarded operations and maintenance

contracts for the 28 wastewater treatment

plants owned by Canal de Isabel II in the

Alberche river basin in Madrid. The plants,

which have a treatment capacity of 232,000

equivalent inhabitants, have a design flow

rate of 38,300 m

3

/day. FCC Aqualia also

manages the La Reguera wastewater

treatment plant and 78 pumping installations

in the south zone of the Madrid Autonomous

Community.

FCC Aqualia provides comprehensive ser-

vices in the Madrid Community and is the

leading private operator. It manages water

municipal services in two landmark sites:

San Lorenzo del Escorial and Alcalá de He-

nares. In the latter, it manages these ser-

vices jointly with Canal de Isabel II Gestión.

The Company also specialises in contracts

for sewerage network maintenance, supply

networks, pumping stations, wastewater

treatment stations, the maintenance of fou-

ntains, public buildings, and other types of

projects contemplated in these types of

contracts.

The commercial relations between FCC

Aqualia and Canal de Isabel II Gestión is a

clear example of the collaboration amongst

the public and private sector management

companies and joint ventures where colla-

boration between the administrations and

companies has been very positive over

many years to the benefit of citizens.
