Aragón-La Rioja Branch Office of FCC Medio Ambiente
“Hypertension campaign:
the silent enemy”
Since 2013, the Aragón-La Rioja Branch
Office of Medio Ambiente is carrying out
a Cardiovascular Prevention program as
part of the company’s implementation of a
Healthy Company Management System.
Cardiovascular diseases are caused by di-
sorders of the heart and of the blood ves-
sels. According to the World Health Orga-
nization (WHO), more than three-fourths of
cardiovascular mortality could be prevented
by making the right changes in our lifestyles.
At this branch office, with the commitment
and support of management, and in colla-
boration with the company’s production,
prevention, and medical departments as
well as the workers’ representatives, car-
diovascular risk prevention is being promo-
ted by offering personnel the opportunity of
acquiring and maintaining healthy lifestyle
habits at work and at home.
The “Hypertension campaign: the silent
enemy” consists of:
A dissemination campaign, placing
posters in all the work sites and distri-
buting leaflets to all personnel.
Educational talks aimed at FCC per-
sonnel and their families. Three mee-
tings have been organised with a total
of 99 participants.
Practice a
cardio-healthy lifestyle,
for a healthy, strong, and
full of energy heartbeat.
OF COURSE!
Loan of devices for measuring blood
pressure at home. This has made it
possible to obtain a diagnosis and as-
sess the treatment by eliminating the
“white coat” syndrome (higher blood
pressure when in the presence of a
physician). Seventeen people moni-
tored their blood pressure at home.
Hypertension was confirmed in 9 indi-
viduals and the other 8 were ruled out.
Personalised consultations: more
than 150 new blood pressure tests,
assessment of cardiovascular risk
factors, recommended changes in li-
festyles, and referrals to primary and
specialised care.
Cardiovascular disease is closely linked
to lifestyles, especially smoking and un-
healthy eating habits, physical inactivity,
and psychosocial stress. The branch office
is implementing various programs to pro-
mote healthy lifestyles that will contribute to
preventing cardiovascular disease and will
also improve the quality of life and lifestyle
of the individual and the family.
