fulfil the plan to ensure the company’s fu-
ture.
The current situation generally represents a
great challenge for all of us who are part of
this organization and I believe that we are
working hard so that FCC can be a great
international infrastructures group.
Why is the so much talked about inter-
nationalisation so important?
This can be summarised in two main ideas:
survival and new opportunities. The interna-
lisation process is due to the sector where
we operate and the economic situation in
Spain. This means that we must be invol-
ved in tender processes in other countries,
new growth and profitable markets that in-
vest in major infrastructure projects where
FCC is able to contribute value and can di-
fferentiate itself versus its competitors.
Our ten most important projects at the
present time are being developed abroad.
One such example is the recent contract for
building the Riyadh metro, the greatest me-
tro project in history. We now have to exe-
cute it o time, with quality and profitability.
The challenge is to be able to train and to
prepare our professionals for working in this
new scenario that requires a learning pro-
cess, not just in languages, but the other
rules of the game in new markets where in
general, the common language is that in
the contract. The key for the success of a
project is the contract, which requires that
our engineers become managers of the va-
rious areas of responsibilities beyond just
production.
What is the role of the contract mana-
ger? What type of professional does
FCC Construcción need?
FCC requires professionals who are com-
mitted, specialised and with vision, capa-
ble of managing a project globally, of being
the leader of multidisciplinary teams, open
to other cultures and to new markets. We
currently need people who are ready to dri-
ve the change, not just organizationally, but
also operationally. Each professional can
contribute to making the new FCC a reality.

an open mind, to be flexible and able to in-
tegrate in and adapt to a new cultural envi-
ronment, and also to be able to consider an
experience abroad as an opportunity for ta-
king on greater responsibilities and, there-
fore, to grow personally and professionally.
