FCC
Group’s presence in Arabia
FCC Aqualia, FCC Group’s company spe-
cialising in end-to-end water management
has been operating in Saudi Arabia for the
past three years.
The National Water Company awarded a
contract to FCC Aqualia contemplating
the design and implementation of a project
to search for and repair leaks in the water
supply network of most of the city of Ri-
yadh. Worth 27 million euros, it was the first
water management contract awarded to a
Spanish company in the Middle East.
Work is currently underway to optimise the
6,700 kilometre network that supplies drin-
king water to more than 3,000 people. The
company is also involved in the GIS mode-
lling of the entire network and is performing
a study on the operations and optimisation
of household water meters. Also in the
Middle East, a few months lter FCC Aqualia
was awarded a contract for the operations
and maintenance of the sewers and sewa-
ge treatment system in the emirate of Abu
Dhabi.

Since ADA awarded FCC the contract,
the team has been going over the con-
tract and improving the conditions of its
clauses based on prior requests by FCC
and new contributions. The terms and
conditions originally accepted when the
contract was awarded and the contract
executed in the beginning of October
have been significantly improved. These
can be grouped into three major blocks:
Milestones
Better collection terms and condi-
tions (collection periods, withhol-
dings, etc.)
Improved requisites and terms for
receiving advanced payments.
Penalties for delays have been sig-
nificantly limited.
