To date, more than 600 prizes have been
awarded through this initiative that was
born in 1987 to commemorate European
Year of the Environment. On this occasion,
there was a wide representation of Mexi-
can municipalities underscoring the close
relations of ATEGRUS with Latin American
countries as evidenced by the celebration
of several Latin American Congresses sin-
ce 1984 and the ALINVEST Industrial Eu-
ropean-Latin American Cooperation Pro-
gram in place since 2002.
The contest focuses on municipalities, pro-
vincial councils, city councils, municipal as-
sociations, autonomous regions, enginee-
ring companies, environmental consultants,
manufacturers of capital goods, and urban
waste and cleaning management facilities,
universities, etc.
The competition aims to assess and to re-
cognise the measures and works carried
out to improve or defend waste manage-
ment, urban cleanliness in general in our
cities and industries, rewarding the efforts
and projects to stimulate technological ad-
