ecosystems in the coast of Galicia, aboun-
ding with a forest of brown algae. Its cliffs
are populated with barnacles and mussels
and its waters with a variety of velvet swi-
mcrabs, spider crabs, lobsters, octopus,
anemones, sea urchins and delicious fish
such as turbot and flounders. Dolphins,
whales and sea turtles are also found in the
water around the islands.
Local authorities, companies and the com-
munity are working hand-in-hand to protect
the rich ecosystem of the Cíes Islands with
the aim of becoming in the near future one
of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
