FCC Construcción took part in the Global
Engineering and Public Works Forum, held
at the International University Menéndez
Pelayo, in Santander, on 6 and 7 July and
organised by the Association of Civil Engi-
neers and Fundación Caminos.
Miguel Jurado, chairman of FCC Cons-
trucción, participated in one of the forum’s
theme round tables. He talked about the
global leadership of Spanish construction
and engineering companies and described
the Company’s experience in building Lines
4, 5 and 6 of Riyadh Metro (Saudi Arabia).
He highlighted FCC’s experience, contri-
buted to the entire project as the leader of
the consortium and the positive impact on
the Saudi population, by reducing traffic
congestion and strengthening and boos-
ting the economy of the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia and improving the quality of life of
its citizens. At the same time, he mentio-
ned the need to recover public works in
Spain as an instrument for promoting the
country’s growth.
Ana Pastor, Minister of Public Works, and
Isabel García Tejerina, the Minister of Agri-
culture, Food, and the Environment, also
participated in the event jointly with the
chairmen and senior management of the
country’s leading construction and engi-
neering companies.
Over the course of the event, they discus-
sed important issues such as investment
in infrastructures as essential for ensuring
growth and employment; the Spanish brand
and its global leadership; construction and
engineering companies in the world; and
the new public contracting model where
quality is more important than price.

Other conferences were organised on to-
pics such as stability as the premise for
recovery, economic efficiency and social
cohesion, the role of infrastructures, the
Spanish construction companies as in-
ternational success models, water and
the environment as the centre of attention
worldwide.
