WRG
urges the
public to recycle more
household appliances
an
electronic goods
Waste Recycling Group is backing a TV and
cinema advertising campaign to encourage
a potential audience of nine million viewers
to recycle their broken or unwanted elec-
trical appliances and electronic equipment
and help boost small WEEE (Waste Elec-
trical and electronic equipment) recycling
rates. The advert encourages citizens not
to throw away organic waste but to take it
to the nearest Household Waste Recycling
Center (HWRC)
WRG has made a fnancial contribution
to cover the costs involved in screening a
30-second cartoon which is set to be aired
on various ITV regional franchises this co-
ming Christmas.
WRG currently accepts electrical waste
from the public and local authorities at all
its national network of 84 HWRCs and at
several of its waste transfer stations.
Project coordinator Justin Greenaway,
Contracts Manager for the Kent reproces-
sor SWEEEP Kuusakoski, commented: “It
is a pleasure to have WRG contribute to this
WEEE TV advert broadcast budget.
“The response from industry thus far has
been amazing with us surpassing our pre-
dicted fund raising total of 32,000 pounds
sterling within two weeks of the WEEECon-
nect website (www.weeeconnect.co.uk)
going live.” Justin added: “Communicating
the WEEE recycling message on TV, funded
by industry, is a frst within Europe”.
