a realistic human story of optimism that is
about overcoming obstacles. Directed by
Joshua Weigel, the film was the Grand Pri-
ze winner of The Doorpost Film Project in
2009, which promotes projects that raise
awareness about human values.
The “Butterfly Circus” tells the story of a
group of circus performers during the Great
Depression in the United States. The circus
of Mr. Méndez, however, is different and full
of incredible surprises. One of these is the
discovery by Mr. Mendez of a young man
without extremities at a circus for freaks,
who he is willing to accept at his circus and
thereby changing his life.
Sale of ONCE lottery tickets
The Las Tablas and Federico Salmón buil-
dings allowed their spaces to be used for
the sale of the special ONCE lottery tickets
for Mother’s Day.
Literary Activity
Cristina Álvarez de Mon made a presenta-
tion at the Nuestra Casa de Collado Villal-
ba Retirement Home (Madrid) of the book
“Hasta el cielo, ida y vuelta” (To heaven and
back) that tells its story through letters bet-
ween a girl and her grandmother suffering
from Alzheimer’s disease; a story encom-
passing the greatness of small things and
their importance.
Disability on the stage
The final event at FCC’s Week for People
with Disabilities and Labour Market Inte-
gration was the performance of the La
Luciérnaga dance troupe at the Nuestra
Casa de Collado Villalba (Madrid) retire-
ment home for people with acute eyesight
disability or blind. The troupe offered a re-
pertoire of short acts based on stories by
Anton Chekhov that describe the stories, in
a humorous tone, about human passions
taken to the limit versus the legitimate desi-
