The new treatment plant will servie more than 100,000 people Aqualia receives the governor of Sonora (Mexico) on her visit to Spain. Last February, a delegation from the Mexican state of Sonora, led by Governor Claudia Pavlovich, vi- sited Spain on a tour to strengthen institutional ties and attract Spanish investment in the Mexican state During her stay, Pavlovich was accompanied by the executive member of the State Water Commission (CEA) of Sonora, Sergio Ávila. Both met with repre- sentatives of the public administration and Spanish companies to address issues such as the state of water infrastructure in Sonora, economic coopera- tion between the Mexican state and Spain or the po- tential of public-private partnerships (PPPs) for the development of infrastructure and public services. The governor took advantage of her visit to get to know Ávila’s service and the daily management that Aqualia carries out in the municipalities where it operates. Fourth desalination plant develo- ped in Latin America Guaymas is the fourth desalination plant developed by Aqualia in Latin America, after the Candelaria, Sierra Gorda and Huechún projects in Chile under the EPC (Engineering, Procu- rement and Construction) modality and, in some cases, with operation and maintenance. With this contract, in which Aqualia was awarded ahead of three other consortiums that took part in the tender, the FCC Group company will develop its third BOT (Build, Operate, Transfer) project in the Aztec country. Desalination, an alternative for ob- taining water Desalination is an interesting option to supply the population with drinking water in areas where there are no other viable alternatives. In this sen- se, Aqualia has extensive experien- ce in the construction and manage- ment of this type of infrastructure, as it has participated in multiple projects of this type. In 2015, the United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDS). Water management (ODS Nº6 - Clean Water and Sanitation) is postulated as one of the key factors for improving the lives of citizens and, at the same time, taking care of the Environment.
