Ramalho Rosa Cobetar and FCC Construcción have been awarded the construction contract for the Gouvaes dam in Portugal. The project has an execution time of 35 mon- ths and a budget of 18 million euros. The dam will have a maximum height of 30 meters above the foundation and 232.7 meters in length at the top. The total volume of the dam is approximately 43,000 cubic meters. The Gouvães reservoir will have a capacity of 13.7 cubic hectometres. The American Concrete Institute, in Las Vegas (USA), pre- sented the “Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards”, where the Almonte Viaduct was awarded first place in two categories, the best infrastructure and the best glo- bal project. On the other hand, the International federation for structural concrete (FIB) (Melbourne-Australia) has awarded the reference project a runner-up prize for the most outstanding concrete structure. In addition, during the congress on the infrastructures of the future that the IABSE (International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering) held in Nantes, the project was awarded the prize in the category of structures.
