The doctor in charge of the Medical Service of the Cataluña II Branch of FCC, Montserrat Gómez Recasens, granted an interview to the firm Hu- manas, Salud Organizacional (http:// www.humanas.es/montserrat-go- mez-fcc/), where she stresses the importance of implementing a healthy company model in organizations. What does a healthy company mean for you? It means an innovative company, with a brand involved in its community and which cares for and empowers its people. Are healthy companies more hu- man? Of course, people are the most im- portant assets for healthy compa- nies. Why is it important, right now, for organizations to consider this type of management model? Because they are the ones who will be able to overcome the current eco- nomic crisis and they will come out stronger. What are the benefits of the heal- thy company model in organiza- tions? Many: better performance, a strong image, quality, cost control… Companies should find a balance between business development and personal growth. What do you think is the main factor holding companies back in this respect? The work load, lack of a budget and the hectic day-to-day. At what point are the companies right now? At the point of surviving, although this is not incompatible with being a heal- thy company. Do you believe that the shift of a company towards a healthy cultu- re is possible? Yes, I believe it is possible. If all of us are doing it, everyone can do it. It is just a matter of wanting to do it. What are the values and ethical principles that companies must have in this new scenario? Sincerity, communication, responsi- bility, commitment, teamwork, conti- nuity… What are the traits of a “heal- thy leader”? Should have empathy, be a commu- nicator, creative, steady, innovative, mediator, brave. I think that a com- pany must have not just one healthy leader; it should various, at least one in each department or section.
