construction This is the first Project under - taken by the Madrid City Council that will be executed using BIM (Building Information Modelling) technology, from its inception to construction and subsequent conservation and maintenance. BIM methodology is a compre- hensive management system for building and civil works pro- jects that will enable the optimi- sation of all processes. Thanks to the use of this technology, it will be possible to: • Provide support in decision making during the execution of the work. • Ensure the coordination of dis- ciplines and/or models during the construction of the project, guaranteeing coherence and reliability between the execu- tion of the different disciplines, as well as communication be- tween the agents involved. • Increase and ensure the qua- lity of the construction pro- cess, improving the reliability of the work programming and the final documentation. • Support the transfer of infor- mation from the execution of the work to the operation and maintenance phase, ensuring the delivery of a single source of reliable and consistent in- formation. First project to be built using BIM technology The roads will also be rearranged, and some of the existing viaducts will be adapted and extended. In addition, the remodelling will also improve road safety, access to public transport and existing ser- vices reducing travel time. Less time behind the wheel According to studies carried out by the Government’s Environment and Mobility Area, the average time by car to cross the North Junction at rush hour is 3.16 minutes. With this reform, a time saving of 31% is foreseen in the displacements in private vehicle during the rush hour. In total, 3,667 hours a day will be saved. Increasing capacity at critical points and eliminating crosso- vers will reduce congestion le- vels to below 70%. In addition, this reform will improve air quali- ty, reducing CO 2 emissions by an average of 14 tonnes a day, equi- valent to 0.5% of CO 2 emissions from the road transport sector in Madrid. This work forms part of the mea- sures of the Madrid 360 Environ- mental Sustainability Strategy with which the Madrid City Council will comply with the air quality limits es- tablished by the European Union.
