How to manage
privacy
in your Facebook
Facebook has become the social network
with the greatest number of users around
the world. According to estimates, there are
more than 845 million users in 2012; 16 mi-
llion from Spain, that is, more than 30% of
the Spanish population.
This means that our personal information,
images and contacts are exposed to mi-
llions of people. This is why it is essential
to configure the privacy of our profile well
and to define who can gain access to our
information.
The Facebook conditions for use and for
privacy are constantly evolving and, accor-
dingly, it is advisable to “waste some time”
once in a while to go over it in depth. To manage the privacy of our profile, we cu-
rrently have to go to the menu on the top
right side, next to the Start menu (Image
01). When we click on the arrow, a drop-
down menu opens up and we should then
click Privacy Settings.
Facebook offers three types of configura-
tions: Public, Friends, and Personalised.
The predetermined configuration is the pu-
blic one, although this setting is the least
advisable. The safest setting is the perso-
nalised one. When we select this setting,
a window opens up (Image 02) where we
could then go an select our contact lists

If Facebook were a
country, it would rank as
the third most populated
country in the Earth. A
country where all its
inhabitants can be
interconnected, where the
personal data of its citizens
are often shared with other
neighbours without consi-
dering the risks involved.
