Bajo Almanzora
Desalination Plant
in Almería
The Minister of the Natural, Rural and Ma-
rine Environment Rosa Aguilar inaugurated
the Bajo Almanzora Desalination Plant in
the province of Almería. The 60,000 m
3
/
day capacity plant was built by a joint ven-
ture which included Aqualia, Aqualia Infra-
estructuras, FCC Construcción and Befesa.
The budget for this plant, developed by
nationally-owned Acuamed was more than

75 million Euros, one third of which was co-
funded by the European Union. The plant
will satisfy growing demand for water re-
sources, for agriculture as well as for urban
consumption, in Almeria’s coastal cities and
towns.
Aqualia participated in the
construction of this new
facility which has a
desalination capacity of
60,000 cubic metres per
day and was worth an
investment of 75 million
Euros.
